An amazing cinematic work! The noir feel and intensely contrasted colours mixed with the amazing voice narration create a fantastic lasting film. Congrats!

Yeah, fantastic short. Alas, Vimeo’s far too choppy and eratic. Constant blips and stops destroyed your terrific rhyme scheme.

    Amazing!..I love it!

Simply marvelous. I really enjoyed the narrator’s voice and the whole style of animation. The poem was fantastic. You deserve every award you’ve received for this masterpiece.

This is truely an amazing short, probably the best i’ve ever seen. My friend, Annika and I fell in love with the style of the cats you all drew them in. My boyfriend, Charles absolutely adores the poetry as it is his life’s passion. I recited it to him over the phone and he loves it. The animation is so smooth, especially with the cigarette smoke throughout the film it looks almost alive.

The dark and sinister themes sent chills up my spine as i watched it, and probably the darkest part of the whole film for me was when The cats all pounce on ‘the organ grinder’ and claw at him. Also, how you drew the waves gave the situation a feeling i get during a horrendous thunderstorm.

Truely an amazing piece, i watch it to calm myself down if i’m ever filled with a negative feeling.

This… was beautiful. My tongue was wrestling with my heart in my throat at some bits… it’s stunning. Absolutely, I cannot imagine what time it took to make this.
I really am at a loss for colorful vocabulary, this speaks for itself.

I would love this, but the narrator voice is so annoying and ugly, raw and ugh- sorry!
The rest is just fabulous, but I just can’t listen.

I like that! I think it has a pretty good chance of winning at the Oscars. Even though I’m a big Pixar fan, I won’t be unhappy if The Cat Piano wins over Partly Cloudy.

The story reminds me somehow of Murakami’s Kafka on the Shore, where “Johnnie Walken” kills cats to collect their souls and make a special flute. Beautiful animation by the way.

Gorgeous animation and quite an amazing noir feeling, only intensified by those final chilling moments. A beautiful poem and a pitch-perfect narration achieve a flawless overall execution.

I was completely captivated! A stunning story enhanced by the astounding poem… and the beautifully crafted animation! Definitely a winner! Will be keeping my fingers crossed to see this animated shorts take home an Oscar statuette…

My heart sang with the beauty of this piece. Loved it, loved it, loved it.

  35. 37 DAN May 6, 2010 at 5:53 pm

I’m sorry, but, for me, it was a great disappointment. My aural imagination goes crazy when I try to imagine a Cat Piano. I dearly wish the group had put more thought/heart/insanity into the sounds of the piano itself. We were told in the narration of the colors of various things. We would have liked to see those things as well.
The nit pickiest of all: Too much blue. I love blue, but there was too much of it here/there. I would like to see the next creation!
    Good luck.

  36. 38 Ian June 3, 2010 at 1:25 am

I love the way you use color to elicit emotion from this piece. By far one of the best work I’ve seen.

  37. 39 Star Cruz June 10, 2010 at 3:47 am

    Oozing with brilliance!

  38. 40 Caro July 14, 2010 at 7:46 am

I disagree with Dan’s assessment. The piano sounded TERRIBLE and that is the point, cats in pain should never sound beautiful, not even horribly beautiful. I was a cat owner, nobody wants to hear a nail going through a cat’s tail. The shrieks used in the film were chilling enough and made me think of my old cat. Colour is over rated sometimes and the blues/greys/red and dash of white were sufficient for this piece. It is a brooding piece, told through the voice of a (starving) poet. Starving for sanity mostly in this short and starving for love. My world certainly looks that blue and grey when I’m depressed and have been driven to insanity. I do agree that it’d be nice to see colour in the NEXT piece but I love “The Cat Piano” as it is, noir-esque, almost like an old black and white film, jazzy and smokey, hazy with the dreams (or nightmares) of buskers and hookers.
